The top Republican and Democratic leaders met Friday with President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence to discuss their shared goal of combating the spread of Ebola and other infectious diseases.
Trump was briefed by Vice President Joe Biden and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, a White House official told ABC News, while Pence was briefed on the discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Pence is expected to meet Putin at the G-20 summit in Germany on Sunday.
While the White House has previously said that the meeting would focus on Ebola, the official said the meeting could include discussions on other infectious-disease issues as well.
Trump is expected in the next few days to meet with Chinese President Donald Xi Jinping at the Group of 20 summit in Hamburg, Germany, the officials said.
The two leaders will also hold bilateral talks at the White Houses.
After the meeting, the two leaders are expected to discuss the impact of the pandemic on the U.S. and the world, the White.
House official said.
The White House and State Department have not yet announced who will attend the meeting.
