I was a first-time writer for The Irish New Statesman.
My first book was published in April 2016.
It was a very light, almost lighthearted story about a man who wakes up in a new city, a woman he meets at a funeral, a group of children he has been raised with and a young girl.
The book sold well, but my agent, who had a long experience of being approached by writers and publishers, said she didn’t think it was a good book for the next stage.
I was really nervous.
I had been writing short stories in the past and had never been approached by a publisher before.
I thought, “What is this?
I’ll write one of these.
But what am I going to call it?”
It took me a long time to write my second book, The Book of the Dead, a follow-up to The Book.
I think I was nervous about the idea of making a third book.
In April, I finally wrote the manuscript for it, but it didn’t work out.
I’d already made my first two books, which I was very happy with.
I wrote the third book, too.
The last thing I remember is waking up at my flat.
I don’t know what I was thinking.
I have a very clear memory of thinking: “I’m going to do this one.
This is what I’m going for.”
It’s not easy writing a third novel.
I didn’t have much experience with the genre.
I’ve always been a novelist who writes about stories.
But I had never written a novel that took place in a place, like Dublin, that I knew well.
It took a while for me to understand that the city was more than just the place where the characters lived, and the book had to reflect the city in the way it was.
That was what I needed to know before I even thought about writing the third novel, because I was so unfamiliar with it.
In Ireland, the city is an idea.
You don’t have to know where the city comes from to write a novel.
That’s the way you write about Dublin.
I knew Dublin well enough to write the book.
My family moved here from Dublin three years before I was born.
I came to Dublin when I was 15 and lived in my mum’s house for five years.
We had no money, so I lived with my mum, my stepfather and a couple of other friends.
I went to the local pub, the Irish Pub in The Dock, where I’d always have a few drinks with my mates and hang out with the locals.
It seemed like the perfect place for a book, I thought.
I would go there for lunch every day.
When I got home, I’d get to work and I’d just sit at home, writing.
I just started to feel the weight of it.
It’s so hard to get out of your head.
I used to read the local newspapers and talk to people in the pub, and I could talk to them for hours.
I could also chat to people, but they would just be talking about their kids, their kids’ games or what they were doing, and that’s it.
The idea of a book came to me.
I read the newspaper, and then I saw the book in the paper.
I looked at the cover and thought: “Oh, this is what the world is about now.
This isn’t fiction.
This should be real.”
I was reading a novel called The City of Light, and suddenly I was in Dublin.
The city is a place that you know well, you can see it in a city like Paris or New York.
You see it everywhere, and it’s very real.
I got very excited and excited about it.
I spent a lot of time on the train.
I loved going to the pubs.
I felt very confident.
I wanted to write this book and get my foot in the door.
I also read about the book on the internet and was surprised to see people commenting on it.
People who’d never heard of it were telling me: “It’s very interesting.
It reminds me of a lot I’ve read.”
It wasn’t until a couple months later that I realised I had written something that was actually going to stick in my head.
I’m a very optimistic person.
I want to be successful.
It takes a long period of time for the mind to change and adapt to something new.
I remember when I first got into writing I’d been writing for two years, and had written six books in that time.
It seems like that’s where my confidence was.
I started writing about my experiences as a journalist and my career.
I always write about my life as a writer.
The novel was about a writer, so there’s a lot to be said for being a journalist.
I love my job.
I do it because I want people to read my work and say, “He’s
